an APB on Iain...

It has only just occurred to me that a good place to ask about our chum Iain Robinson would be right here, where he had commented so valuably.
We all know by now, no doubt, that his blog has been removed. I asked him by email if all was well and have had no reply, so if anyone has any idea what has happened to Iain, please let us know by commenting.

  1. Could be that he took Brexit to heart? Lots of strange happenings around the world and I doubt that anyone feels much like doing much online. I know I haven't said or done much for two months now. Just gets more and more exciting doesn't it.
I hope Iain is well and just tired of the blogging. That's what happened to me back in 1999 anyway. Nice that someone cares enough to ask though.

  2. I think he was a slightly fragile character, Rich by his own admission. Maybe he was more artistically inclined than modelmakers like you and me, which wouldn't help, but I have a horrible hunch that something unpleasant happened and he has "withdrawn".

  3. It seems that Iain is alive and well and getting on with exploring old mines. His facinating, beatifully illustrated and well written Treasure Maps site has relocated here: http://www.iainrobinson.online/

Its a shame that the model blog has gone, but I'm sure that Iain had good reason to move on. I do miss him though.

  4. Thanks, Paul. Is he still making models, do you know?

  5. I just had a chance to go and have a quick look see at Iain's new site. Looks like he might be on to something and if only I hadn't tried to pronounce a few of the names I would still have the power of speech! (It will probably return in time.) But everyone should have a few minutes to check out and see what he's been up to. Wonderful photos and an interesting subject. I think sometime we all just need a break. Well done indeed.

  6. Just to be a pain I guess. This one explains it all and tells it all.
http://robinsonmaps.blogspot.co.uk/ At least I hope that is the correct one. Google and I have never been on friendly terms it seems.

  7. Well, it's a good read and well written, but there is nothing about his modelmaking anywhere. Does his mention of difficulties with blogger mean that his modelmaking site went the same way for the same reasons? Is he doing something else now? Who knows? I used to link to several other blogs from his, but that's no longer possible.

  8. According to a thread on RMweb Iain is no longer modelmaking, although it is not stated why apart from his desire to concentrate on other interests. Best of luck to him anyway.
The thread is here (scroll down): http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/70935-anything-you-can-do-i-can-do-better-robinson-and-downes/page-248
Beware, lots of chaff and little actual content!

  9. Very strange. I can only assume he just got sick of it or the work ran out. I hope he can make a living doing something else. Thanks for the link, but I can't get on RMWeb, they banned me big time and who wants to read anything from that self satisfied crap factory, Downes? I'll email Iain once more and if he won't respond, so be it. Cheers.

  10. Hello! Well firstly, thank you for all the nice things you have said, it restores my faith in humanity and what a lovely bunch of folks you are :-)
I am sorry for disappearing like that, I had something of a burn-out where I couldn't even look at anything model related...still can't to a great extent. I had a lot of work on but was under a great deal of pressure and something, the weakest link, failed! On top of that, I lost all my email addresses and now have a new email, so anyone that wants to can get in touch by writing to iainatiainrobinsondotonline. I am kept busy with the photography and writing now, and perhaps in another year I might feel up to doing some modelling. Thanks for all the concern and kind words, it is hugely appreciated! Thank you, Martin, for issuing the APB :-)

  11. Well there you have it. Thank heavens all is well with our chiseller supreme. Quite understand, Iain, though plenty wouldn't. I've chucked it all in several times and then unavoidably come back to it later. But at that time I wasn't earning a living from it so much. Clearly your love of mines and quarries is the main thing in your working life and I do hope you can make a living doing that. Thanks so much for letting us all know what's happening and all the very best with whatever you do, but be sure to pace yourself and not burn out on the mines or you will be foobarred! Cheers.

  14. I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're referring to! I'm not a fan of these things, just a user.

    1. I would say that the above two anonymous comments are spam. I've had a few try to leave similar comments on my own blog, which just get deleted. Quite what the writers gain from having their mumblings published on our blogs defeats me.

  15. Paul, I tend to delete anything that has a link to a website, but these didn't. I have deleted the first because I clicked the wrong line originally.
